Obituary for Frances "nee Mclver" McConnell

Frances Marie McConnell (nee McIver), age 79 of Arcadia, Florida, passed away peacefully at Tidewell Hospice, Arcadia on Sunday January 21, 2018 surrounded by family. Born December 4, 1938 in Ft. Ogden, Frances went to school in Ft. Ogden and high school in Arcadia. She was the youngest child of Ed Russell McIver and Cathleen Iola Mulford, having two brothers, George McIver and predeceased by Ed Russell McIver and three sisters, Louise Kondrat, Linda Cerna, and predeceased by Betty Worth.

Frances married Charles Cecil Daughtry of Fort Ogden in June 1955 and began a family of four children: first Charles Robert (Diane) Daughtry of Tara, Ontario, Canada; second John Newton Daughtry (died in infant); third Sandra Lynn (Wesley) Daughtry of Lake Placid; and forth Michael Kevin (Dina) Daughtry of Punta Gorda.

She enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing and camping. She recounted a time when she was wading waist-deep in water in a pond after dark gigging frogs with another relative. Using a bamboo pole with a barbed spear head she was coerced into stabbing what was thought to be a big frog near the edge of lily pads. She was told "Look Fran, there's a big one, stab it". She said she nearly walked on water trying to get out of the pond when she realized it was a small gator she had gigged. She said she had a devil of a time trying to hang on to that bamboo pole with a gator thrashing around on the other end.

She had accumulated a large Library over the years as she was an avid reader, one of several passions that included cooking and crocheting. She has spent countless hours crocheting doilies, tablecloths, and bedspreads with fine cotton thread for her 3 children, 12 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a casual celebration of life at Brownville Park Arcadia on Thursday afternoon, January 25, between 2 and 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation to Brownville Park or Tidewell Hospice would be appreciated.
