Obituary for Harry Geissler

Harry Conrad Geissler, 91, of Lake Placid went to be with his Lord on Friday night September 29, 2017 at his residence. He was born on September 24, 1926 in Dumont, NJ to Rebecka and Andreas Geissler. After graduating from Dumont High School in 1944, Harry served his country with honors during WWII in the US Navy. After his service to his country, Harry attended George Washington University and then went on to receive his law degree from the University of Florida. Once he received his law degree, he went to work in the insurance industry, heading up the Miami Travelers Insurance claims department. After retiring from Travelers in 1992, given his law degree and his extensive knowledge of the insurance industry, Harry became a mediator. He was able to assist in resolving countless disputes and his success in mediating led to his lecturing and training at local universities.
Harry had been a resident of Miami since 1952 moving to Lake Placid permanently in 2010. Harry was so talented and had so many hobbies…..Golf, tennis, racquetball, softball, whatever the game, he may not have had the longest drive or the hardest serve but he would beat you just by knowing the game and mentally wearing you down. After the game though, he would buy you a beer and ease the loss by just playing a tune on the piano or even on the harmonica. He could even play a tune on the banjo and the accordion at one point and add in a bit of tap dancing as well. Harry never failed to amaze us. His charm, his sense of humor and oh those “Harry” jokes and his kind heart will never be forgotten.
Harry was of the Christian faith. He is survived by his loving daughters; Kristiana Geissler and Lisa Geissler-Davey(Michael) and two grandchildren; Jake and Rebecca Davey and his wife of 58 years Joyce. In keeping with Harry’s wishes a private service for the family to celebrate his life will be held. Words of comfort to the family can be made by visiting Arrangements entrusted with the Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid 863-465-4134
